Classically elegant and modernly stylish
GTV’s new products follow the brand’s distinctive style, while offering something fresh and new. The 2023 innovations were created in collaboration with the design offices AB Concept and Nichetto Studio, as well as once again with India Mahdavi. The visions of these renowned designers bring unique and inspiring solutions to the collection, visible in the production methods, materials, and details of the products.
India Mahdavi sketched the form of the Mickey armchair and Loop chairs without lifting her pen. The chairs’ frame resembles a continuous line, giving them a sympathetic and cost-effective appearance. “Gebrüder Thonet Vienna is the only manufacturer in the world capable of creating such a high-quality wooden piece based on a freehand drawing,” Mahdavi praises.
Suitable Solutions for Public Spaces – A Blend of Beauty and Practicality
GTV’s new products are particularly well-suited for public spaces, such as restaurants, hotels, lobbies, and offices. Their design and materials allow them to seamlessly blend into various styles, whether in a modern setting or a classic environment. The new products are not only beautiful but also offer users an experience of durability and finely honed comfort. The Loop chair and Mickey armchair complement each other perfectly, creating a cohesive space while offering seating options for various situations.
GTV’s exhibition booth in Milan did not go unnoticed by Scandinavian design enthusiasts. The shapes and materials of the collection blend seamlessly with any Nordic design classic, yet bring something new and different to the overall concept. The Loop product family now includes dining chairs in addition to the armchair and bench.
Versatility as a Solution for Various Uses
Ed Ng, founder of the award-winning design studio AB Concept, was inspired by GTV’s reputation for creating innovative manufacturing techniques. This led to the creation of the Hagu chair, which means “embrace” in Finnish. The Hagu chair beautifully highlights the wood bending tradition that GTV is known for. The chair is equally suitable for both private and project use, including hotel and restaurant environments, as it is lightweight, sophisticated, and comfortable even for long dinner sittings.
The metal frame of the Hagu chair, designed by Ed Ng, extends slightly beyond the bent plywood backrest. This visually striking detail also serves a practical purpose: the frame creates a discreet “handle,” making it easy for staff to move the chair, especially in a restaurant setting.
Nichetto Studio also wanted to preserve GTV’s characteristic manufacturing method, steam bending. This time, however, it’s metal that bends instead of wood, adding versatility to GTV’s collection, particularly for projects. The Ample chair features a complex yet lightweight shape, and its seat is available in wood or upholstered with selected Kvadrat fabrics.
When designing the Ample chair, Nichetto Studio preserved the tradition of craftsmanship but combined it with a new material, metal. The Ample chair is a sculpturally beautiful piece of furniture for homes and project spaces.
