ean-Louis Domecq sketched his first lamp in the late 1940s. Frustrated by the lack of lighting solutions that met the demands of working in factory conditions, he set out to create something better.
The final lamp design was completed in April 1950. It perfectly met the necessary requirements: the lamp was simple yet durable, and suitable for all types of working environments. Domecq spent the years 1951-52 industrializing his beautiful invention. In 1953, he founded the company to market his lamp. The company was named Jieldé, after the initials of its founder.
Jieldé’s range has expanded beyond the original work lamp to include floor and reading lamps. The lamps are cast by hand from 100% aluminum, then assembled and numbered by hand in Lyon, France. Today, Jieldé is one of the icons of French industrial art.
Jieldé is a prime example of quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity. A favorite among interior designers, it regularly appears in the pages of Elle Décor and other prestigious design publications.
OUT OF THE DARK is the official distributor of Jieldé products in Finland and also operates in the Baltics and Scandinavia.
